Special Educational Needs and Disabilities

At Cam Hopton C of E Primary School we recognise that all children are unique and that all children have individual needs. As a school we pride ourselves on our inclusive ethos and our aim to nurture and support each child to ensure they reach their full potential. To ensure all children are fully supported, it may be necessary to provide additional or different provision to enable them to achieve this.

We believe that all children are entitled to a broad and balanced curriculum with quality first teaching at the heart of what we provide. All teachers are teachers of children with SEN and ensure that their lessons are planned to a high standard with differentiation to ensure the needs of all children are met and that all children are able to achieve the learning objective. Alongside the Quality first teaching, children with SEN will have additional provision provided to ensure that they are fully supported and able to succeed.  At Cam Hopton we are committed to raising the aspirations of, and the expectations for all pupils with SEN.

Cam Hopton's SEND Coordinator is Mrs Kerry Whitney and she can be contacted through the school office. Details of which are on the Contact page.

Provision Map

Children with a My Plan will receive additional support to enable them to work towards the outcomes on their plan. At Cam Hopton, we have developed a whole school provision map that demonstrates the different types of support we are able to offer. The provision map is split into the four broad areas of SEN:

  • Communication and interaction
  • Cognition and Learning
  • Social, emotional and mental health difficulties
  • Sensory and/ or physical needs

Alongside this, the provision map demonstrates the different ‘Levels’ of support in each of these areas. At Cam Hopton we use the Gloucestershire Graduated Pathway of Early Help and Targetted support, to enable us to apply a graduated approach which ensures the right level of support at the right time.

UNIVERSAL – All Children

At Cam Hopton, we use ‘Quality First Teaching’ to ensure that lessons are of a high standard. Work is differentiated to the needs of the children, resources are tailored to suit the class and different learning styles are catered for. All lessons are planned thoroughly and teaching assistants are integral in ensuring all of the children are enabled to achieve the lesson objectives.

TARGETED – Some Children

Targeted provision describes specific, targeted and additional support for some children to enable them to make expected progress. these interventions are often targeted at groups of learners with similar needs and are not primarily SEN interventions, although children with SEN may receive this support. This support may include TA led sessions in or out of the classroom and would be provided in addition to the Universalsupport. All children with a My Plan will be supported using Targeted provision.

SPECIALIST – Few Children

Specialist provision targets personalised provision for the children who need highly tailored intervention to accelerate progress and enable children to achieve their full potential. This may include one-to-one or personalised interventions which take place outside of the classroom as part of the planned withdrawal. The SENDCO is likely to be involved to a greater degree in supporting teacher to meet the needs of the learners, drawing on the support of outside agencies where appropriate. Specialist support is provided in addition to all other support. Children receiving Specialist support will have a My Plan + in place and may need an EHCP.
